As the winter chill sets in, staying cozy doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style. Layering is the key to warmth and versatility, allowing you to adjust to temperatures while still looking great. Here’s how you can master the art of layering for a winter wardrobe that’s as functional as it is fashionable.

TURTLENECK and trench coat

Thick turtlenecks are very in style right now. Layering them with a trench coat or jacket eliminates the need for a scarf and can make the outfit look more elevated.

Chunky Scarf

A neutral, chunky scarf can accentuate any outfit. You could dress it up with a long wool coat or down with a trendy puffer. You can also tie and wrap scarves in a lot of different ways, making it a versatile layering piece.

sweater over collared shirt

An easy way to layer in the winter is to wear a sweater over a collared shirt. This can add a more business casual feel, while also adding an extra layer to keep you warm.

beanie and headphones

For most college students, wearing headphones to class is a must. Adding a flat beanie underneath your headphones can keep your head and ears warm while also adding a new texture, color or pattern to the outfit.

Moon boots and leggings

For a more casual look, moon boots have also come back into style. Leggings and moon boots are perfect for winter conditions, but they still have a new style to them. This would be a cute look for a very cold, snowy day.

Puffer vest

What I personally love about puffer vests is that anyone can wear them. Any age can pull a puffer vest off. They are also nice to layer with sweaters or hoodies when a coat with sleeves feels like it would be too bulky.

oversized leather jacket and a hoodie

A baggy leather jacket is effortless and edgy to wear in the winter. On an extra cold day, throwing a hoodie on underneath makes for a comfy, but effortlessly stylish look.

Suede sherpa jacket and uggs

I have a jacket just like this one and it is one of the warmest jackets I’ve ever owned. In a neutral color, these jackets can match plenty of shoes, especially Uggs. Pairing these with jeans makes for a comfortable but stylish outfit.

Thermal tights

One of the best inventions is thermal tights. The inside features a fleece-lined legging of sorts and comes in a few different shades of nude. Fleece-lined tights will keep you warm without changing the look of the outfit. This look would be perfect for a night out or just a day you feel like dressing up.

Finally, when done right, a classic sweater vest can be a way to finish off any outfit. These can either be neutral or bold in addition to being layered with almost anything. Long-sleeved thermals, turtlenecks and collared button-downs are a few of the many options.

With these 10 layering ideas, you’ll be prepared to face any winter weather in comfort and style, all while staying warm and cozy.
